Okay, right now you are groaning. NO! I HATE REORGANIZING! But face it people, reorganizing is an important part of life, embrace it! So I know, some of you aren’t born reorganizers, and some of you have messy parents that aren’t good examples, but that’s no excuse for have a trash heap made out of all you precious things. So I happen to be a born reorganizer, my mom is REALLY good at it, and since I am EXACTLY like her, I find it easy and FUN! So I am here to help you, just read the instructions and follow them carefully, and you have to be wholehearted if you intend anything to come of it.
- Find a corner or wall in your space that you want to start in and just focus on that, if necessary, throw out all of your stuff and make the space completely bare. This will make it easier to wipe out, it also will chase out any intrusive 8 legged friends that found it a cozy spot.
- Take a vacuum, duster, dust rag, or broom and get all the dirt and pieces of things that are floating around. Then take an antibacterial wipe, or a rag and soapy water and clean the floor, shelves, or anything else that’s there. This is an important step because it gets rid of all the bacteria and will make the closet smell better.
- Figure out where, what, and how you want your stuff to be placed in the space, you can draw out a map and organize it on paper if necessary. This will give you a plan ahead of time, which will make it go quickly, and smoothly.
- Go through the stuff placing it into piles, what you will keep, what you will throw away, and what you will sell or give away. This will free up some more space and make a lot less hassle. It also makes room for new things, yes pack rats, this means you too! I thoroughly sympathize, I am the biggest pack rat at our house.
- Take the stuff you will keep and divide it into categories, such as fabrics, beads, yarn and string, and paper crafts. Then place them on certain shelves, or, make a tag and tape it onto a basket or container. This will help remind you where to put it and make it easy to clean up quickly. Storing in containers also makes it easy to access, and clean periodically.
- Put everything carefully away and then smile! Now this is the hardest step of all, now you have to commit to keeping it CLEAN! I know it is hard, but try to just put things where they go right after you use them, if you get into the habit of it, it will make everything a lot easier. If need be, take a picture of how nice everything looked when you had finished, tape it up on the door of your closet or something so that you can see it and it will remind you all the time.
GOOD LUCK!
