Book Review: The Silver Chair

A young prince is lured away by a mysterious and beautiful enemy, the very one that killed his late mother. The old and heartbroken king is desperate to find him before he dies, and little does he know that now a terrible danger threatens the sweet land of Narnia. Two children are filled with an incredible desire to escape to the world of Narnia away from the torments of a horrid boarding school, suddenly while running from the school bullies they enter into a different world, and to the huge task of finding the lost prince before it is too late. A lion gives them four signs they must follow, and little time to do it. On they journey past giants, sorceresses, snow storms, and down into the center of the earth itself.

C. S. Lewis had a great purpose in mind when he wrote this one. Jill and Eustace must follow the signs given them, or suffer the consequences. This is very like the story of the children of Israel when they are on the Exodus. He also shows the dangers of the seductive woman and the trap that she can ensnare people in.

This is personally my second favorite, it is very adventurous, funny, and spiritually educational. We listened to the radio drama and really enjoyed it, it will make an EXCELLENT movie. I can’t wait. Oh, and Puddleglum is a doll, we all liked him so much by the time we were done my daddy said we should make T-shirts. One would say, “Don’t be a Marshwiggle”,and the other would say, “Puddleglum for President”. He would get my vote! C. S. Lewis’s ingenuity in inventing these creative creatures testifies his incredible imagination.
