An “Orange” Sunrise

I like to make simple  things  elegant and fancy.  And I  have learned and  come up  with a few tricks  that make  the simple  things of life,  SIMPLY  ELEGANT.

I love to eat fresh fruit for  breakfast, especially  oranges, or watermelon.  But  oranges aren’t very  edible  when they have all  of that  tough white stuff  on them, in  fact, they are  down  right CHOKE- ABLE!

But I have figured out a  way slice oranges so that  they are easy to eat, and  pretty to look at.

STEP #1: Wash your oranges with veggie soap and dry them THOROUGHLY with a towel. So that they look like these in the platter above.

STEP #2: Cut a small slice off the bottom of the orange so that it won’t roll later. This prevents cutting your fingers. Now the orange will look like this one in the picture below.

STEP #3: Slice the orange lengthwise so that you have two halves or spheres. Make sure to hold the orange with just your fingertips, then if just your knuckles are showing it will prevent more cuts.

STEP #4: Now take one of those halves or spheres and begin to cut thin slices. They should be about 1/4 of and inch wide, but you can make them whatever size you need. When you finish the half should look like this one in the picture below.

STEP #5: Begin laying out the slices all facing one direction. Starting in the outer row put the biggest slices on that one.

STEP #6: Repeat the first 5 steps on all of the oranges until the platter is full. Always start with the longest and fullest slices on the outer row, working your way in and putting the smaller slices on the inside rows. The tiny ones you can use for your finishing touch. Hopefully in the end it should look like this platter I did below.

Whether you are wanting a fancy fruit dish at a party, or just wanting to spruce up the table a bit, this “Orange Sunrise” will get the job done!
