Movie Review: The Swan Lake Princess

A classic Barbie movie.

Odette has always been afraid, afraid of people, afraid of wild horse rides, afraid of dancing in public. But when she follows a mysterious unicorn through a door behind a waterfall, she has to be brave or die!

The evil Rothbert, a man and falcon, has been trying to take away the Enchanted Forest from the Fairy Queen for years. Some of the best elves and fairies have been turned into animals while trying to stop him. Only the one who frees the crystal will be able to stop him.

And who would it be but Odette? Suddenly the poor girl finds herself in the midst of a battle for the Enchanted Wood. When Rothbert finds out he immediately turns her into a swan. Only from sunset to sunrise is she in her natural form.

Meanwhile Prince Daniel must find a bride to please his mother, but he is not interested, he’d rather go exploring or hunting. One day he follows an evil looking falcon through a door into a beautiful wood. There he spots a swan flying gracefully over the lake, he is about to shoot, but then its beauty overcomes him and puts down the bow. What a surprise it is to see the swan turn into a girl when it lands.

At last Daniel has found a bride, but now Rothbert has found out how to stop Odette’s plans for saving the forest. All he needs is to have Daniel proclaim his love to someone else other than Odette, and then the power of the crystal will be broken.

Can Odette and Prince Daniel find a way to stop this evil man?

I really liked this one, there was lots of pretty music and dancing. It is one of the older Barbie movies, and it is better than some of the newer ones. I watched it with my friends, and we each pretended to be a character as we watched the movie. I was the Fairy Queen, but later on in the movie I got turned into a mouse! UGH! A rodent! Like, rodents carry diseases, euw! But later I went back to being a beautiful woman.

Thank you. Yeah, I have never really had anything to do with Barbies. Like my mom didn’t let me own them, so I really never got into it. But some of the movies are really sweet. There are 3 others that I really like, “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” they have a really sweet family relationship in that one. And “The Princess and the Pauper” that’s the one that we watched for Lydia’s 8th birthday years ago. And then, “The Island Princess”, that one is bright and has a good story with BEAUTIFUL music. I think that you would like those.
