Wow, today was the first day of orchestra.
We were in our old classes today, but we did auditioning. I had been anticipating, with not much excitement, playing in front of a teacher by myself. I had a lovely surprise when I found out that we were doing a group audition. Meaning, that our group would play, and the teachers would walk around and listen to us, and write things down.
I was shooting for Bach, the next class up, and the class where all of my friends were. Others were auditioning to enter the class that I was hopefully leaving.
I had a few problems with the song that I had practiced. To make a long story short, I had lost one of the most important books that I needed, had borrowed a different one, and then practiced a completely different song from the one that we were using. It wasn’t my fault, my books were messed up, so the teachers gave me extra grace to mess up.
We did site reading, which went really well, and played the D major and G major scales over again and again. Ugh! My arms are tired.
Then we went up to theory to play musical jeopardy, ugh! I HATE that game! It has this uncanny ability to make you look completely stupid and illiterate in music. Something that I am not, though I am not the best, but jeopardy brings out the worst in some people.
We had our choir a 1/2 hour later than usual, so I had a chance to eat a sandwich, a good thing too, or I would have gotten a low blood sugar headache later on.
Miss Krista, our choir director, was hyper. She explained that she had had chocolate covered espresso beans and coffee that morning and it hadn’t worn off. So she was all energetic during our practice, and we were all tired from classes.
We are doing the hymn sing again this year, if you don’t know what that is, just go to my blog post archives and click on the earliest one. We did it last year at a great big church, but this year we are doing it at the largest performing hall in our big town near here. The same place that we did the Amahl.
Well, anyway. Me and my friend had to track down a teacher in order to find out if we had made it. I made it to Bach! I am SO thrilled! And I am also moving up to Concert Choir, much more fun. Thank you Lord!
